As you all may know, dancing is my passion. Dance is my stress releaser, my sweet escape and my time to express myself. From all the years that I have dance, I never did a dance cover, nevertheless did a KPOP Dance Cover. So in February 2015, I met up with Izzo and started to take one of his dance classes, the KPOP dance class….But before I get into the KPOP dance class, let me tell you a little bit of this dance machine named Izzo.
So, who is Izzo?
Izzo is a Hip Hop Dance Instructor/Choreographer. He has an experience of 16+ years of dancing, with 10 of those years dancing professionally. Izzo has done stage gigs, talent shows, dance workshops and video recordings. In 2009, he created his own dance crew called “Izz’Matics”. The dance crew won 3 dance competitions while being placed in the two three of a different dance competition.
From 2007 – Current, Izzo has worked with the talent agency, “Pazazz of Essence of Prodigy Dance Studio”. Choreographed dances for various local artists in both Minnesota and Wisconsin and did America’s Got Talent back in 2010. His most recent work was with Microsoft with YouTube starts Chloe & Hallie Baily at the Mall of America.
From February – May 2015, the KPOP dance class met up every Sunday from 7pm – 9:30pm. The class had everyone from beginner, to intermediate and advance. Even though everyone was at a different level, the environment was welcoming. The song that we were going to cover for this session was one of my favorite songs, G-DragonxTaeyang “GoodBoy”.
One thing that I noticed right away about Izzo’s teaching is that he did not only teach you about dancing, he also teaches you the basic behind dances such as counts and movements. This made me like the dance class even more because with the class being so diverse in levels, this helps the beginners know what they are doing, remind the intermediates and advance of the process.
He will break the dances down into sections while teaching you the moves with counts. He doesn’t make you feel rushed and will help you learn the move before moving on. He wants YOU to be comfortable with the dance. There is a huge difference from freestyling & choreography. Dance Covers are tricky as you want to be able to keep the dance moves very similar but different enough so you can add your own flavor to it.
The final product: “GoodBoy Dance Cover”
